Scout the Pika loves snacks, and simple steps for better air

This year, Simple Steps. Better Air. has partnered with Rocky Mountain PBS to get the word out about the simple steps we can all take to keep our air clean and our skies healthy in summertime!

These novel educational videos — for kids and adults alike — feature Scout, a spirited American pika who is friends with Rocky Mountain PBS and hangs out at the Buell Public Media Center in Colorado. Energetic and hungry for both snacks and knowledge, Scout is driven by an inquisitive love of Colorado’s mountains, rivers, and native species – including all his human friends.

Keep an eye out for Scout on TV or the PBS Passport app, while watching your favorite shows! Or take a peek at the video from our playlist embedded below.

Learn what simple steps you can take to keep our air clean and our skies healthy each summer in the Colorado Front Range:

  • When mom or dad park the car, turn the engine off, to avoid idling.
  • Carpool when you can: Riding with friends is fun! Try to combine car trips to save on gas and reduce your emissions.
  • Need to travel somewhere close by? If able, walk, bike, or scoot instead of driving. (Short trips don’t always need a car!)
  • Electric lawn tools are cleaner and quieter than gas-powered equipment.
  • And an electric vehicle can cut emissions even more!
  • Public transit is a great way to get around, too. Buses and trains can help keep cars off the road!
  • And for mom and dad, if possible, working from home can help reduce traffic and pollution altogether!

Little simple steps add up — and when we protect our air, we protect Colorado!
