Want to leave the car at home and avoid sitting in traffic? Take the bus or train to work, to run errands, or attend events and appointments! Compared with driving alone, taking public transportation cuts carbon dioxide emissions almost in half, decreasing pollutants in the atmosphere and improving air quality.
The Colorado Front Range has multiple public transit choices – some of which are even free in the summer or year round. Find the right one for you!
RTD (the Regional Transportation District)
RTD (the Regional Transportation District) covers the greater Denver metro area, and includes buses, light-rail, and a commuter line. RTD’s Zero Fare for Youth program invites riders ages 19 and under to use RTD at no cost, with some form of ID. More information can be found on their website here!
Fort Collins and Northern Colorado: Transfort
Transfort is a free public transit option that services Fort Collins in Larimer County. Fare-Free Transfort will continue indefinitely with the Transfort transit service in Fort Collins Colorado as of 2025. Transfort consists of over 20 fixed routes including regional routes with their FLEX Regional Service. More information can be found on their website.
Transfort offers FLEX, a route that connects riders with stops between Fort Collins, Loveland, Berthoud, Longmont, and Boulder, providing a convenient way to travel throughout the region. Flex is free with the Transfort pass as well as the RTD EcoPass. It’s a convenient option for traveling to and from Fort Collins as it also links with the RTD stations throughout Northern Colorado.
The City of Loveland Transit (COLT)
The City of Loveland Transit (COLT) will be offering fare-free rides during August 2025. City of Loveland Transportation (COLT) is a limited transit option that serves Loveland, and connects with FLEX, Northern Colorado’s premier regional bus route, operated by Transfort. More information to come!
Colorado Springs: Mountain Metro
Though Colorado Springs is just outside the Colorado Non-Attainment Area, they are offering free summer rides from June 1 to August 31, 2025, through their Mountain Metro program. This will be Mountain Metro’s fourth consecutive year participating in the Zero Fair Transit Grant Program. More information can be found on their website here!
Via Mobility Services Colorado
Via Mobility Services is offering fare-free paratransit services beginning June 1 and ending August 31. Via Paratransit is an accessible, shared-ride transportation service for older adults and people with disabilities. Via operates in Adams, Arapahoe, Denver, Jefferson, Boulder, Larimer, and Weld County.
Berthoud RAFT Mobility Services
Berthoud Rural Alternative for Transportation (RAFT) is a free mobility service for older persons (60+) and adults (18+) with disabilities who need transportation service. RAFT serves the 80513-zip code and Berthoud Fire Protection District. More information can be found on their website here!
Estes Park
Do you want to immerse yourself in the beautiful scenery of Rocky Mountain National Park without using a car? Estes Park provides free or inexpensive options to travel. Estes Park operates five free, seasonal shuttle routes around town, as well as a Hiker Shuttle going to the Park and Ride Transit Hub from the Estes Park Visitor Center. The Hiker shuttle will be a $2.00 fee, and reservations must be made in advance. The Bear Lake or Moraine Park shuttles, however, are free to ride and will conveniently deliver to the trailhead of your liking from the Park and Ride Transit Hub.
Bustang services provides rides from the Front Range to Estes Park with fares starting at $7.50 per person and can conveniently deliver you to Estes Park from the Denver Metro Area for a great car-free day trip! Bustang to Estes schedules and fares can be found here!
Tickets to Rocky Mountain National Park will still be required!
Chatauqua Park-to-Park
From May 24th to September 1st, Boulder is offering a free shuttle service to Chatauqua Park from Downtown. More information can be found here!
